The post Halo: Campaign Evolved — The Definitive Remake Arrives in 2026 appeared first on DeadFormat.
]]>Built from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5, this remake reimagines the legendary campaign in 4K resolution, adds new weapons and vehicles, introduces four-player online co-op, and even expands the story with brand-new missions and dialogue.
And for the first time in history, Halo will officially land on PlayStation 5, alongside Xbox Series X / S and PC, when it launches in 2026.
I’ve spent the week playing an early demo of The Silent Cartographer — the same mission once used as the demo for the original Combat Evolved on PC and Mac. From the moment it loads, it’s clear that Campaign Evolved is far more than a visual upgrade.
The opening cinematics are completely rebuilt, the voice work re-recorded, and the animations and lighting bring a modern cinematic edge without losing that iconic Halo tone. The mission feels familiar — until you sprint (yes, sprint) toward a rebuilt Warthog that now has an extra rear seat. It’s then that you realize just how far this remake goes beyond nostalgia.
“We didn’t just put a coat of paint over the original cinematics,” explains Greg Hermann, Technical Director at Halo Studios. “We revisited how they were blocked, sequenced, and shot — across the board.”
Halo Studios previously worked on Halo: Anniversary, but this time they’ve gone all in. Every animation, every camera angle, and every texture has been reconsidered. The original voice cast even returned to re-record their lines, offering a level of fidelity and emotion that wasn’t possible two decades ago.
The team’s approach respects Bungie’s original design, while taking full advantage of modern technology. Environments are larger, the alien architecture richer, and the sense of scale immense — especially across Halo’s iconic vistas.
“Whenever we make a change, the number one thing is to be true to the original game,” says Lead Designer Dan Gniady, who previously worked on Destiny and Destiny 2.
Halo Studios had access to the original assets, code, and storyboards, allowing them to carefully remaster — and in some cases, reinterpret — Halo’s music, cinematics, and systems.
Every new feature has been layered on top of the original framework, ensuring that Campaign Evolved feels like Halo, even when it’s pushing the series forward.
The remake doesn’t just recreate the campaign — it expands it.
Campaign Evolved adds three new bonus missions, designed as a prequel arc that explores more of Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson’s early interactions.
“It was really important that we preserved the original story,” says Max Szlagor, Studio Design Director. “These new missions offer opportunities for new character interactions and new gameplay moments without changing the core narrative.”
These missions feature new locations, enemies, and mechanics, seamlessly integrated into the structure of the main campaign.
Movement, aiming, and gunplay have all been rebuilt to feel like a modern Halo title, while staying faithful to the spirit of Combat Evolved.
Players can now sprint, aim down sights with every weapon, and even hijack vehicles — yes, you can finally drive a Wraith. The Warthog also has a new “golf cart seat” at the back for co-op chaos, as affectionately dubbed by the developers.
All weapons have been redesigned with high-fidelity models, new sounds, and full dynamic lighting. Plasma fire will illuminate interiors, and the Energy Sword can now be looted from fallen Elites.
The remake supports up to four-player online co-op, with crossplay and shared progression across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
Console players can also enjoy two-player local split-screen, keeping that nostalgic couch co-op feel alive.
“We’re expanding certain spaces to accommodate the extra players while keeping encounters authentic,” Szlagor notes. “It’s a careful balance of scale and difficulty.”
Campaign Evolved features the largest selection of skulls ever included in a Halo game — gameplay modifiers that change everything from AI behaviour to combat chaos.
“There are so many skulls that we don’t think it’s even possible to complete Legendary mode with them all active,” says Gniady. “But if anyone can pull it off, we want to see it.”
It’s a clear love letter to hardcore Halo fans, blending nostalgic challenge with near-endless replayability.
One thing you won’t find here is multiplayer. The original Combat Evolved shipped before Xbox Live, so its multiplayer modes were limited to LAN and local play.
Halo Studios made the deliberate choice to focus solely on the campaign, while hinting that the lessons learned here will shape what’s next for the franchise.
“For future titles, we’ll continue to push technology while ensuring the core Halo feel remains intact,” Hermann confirms.
Halo: Campaign Evolved arrives in 2026 on Xbox Series X / S, PC, and PlayStation 5 — a first for the series. It’ll be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass, and will support Xbox Cloud Gaming and Play Anywhere.
Even without a multiplayer mode, this remake feels monumental — not just as a tribute to Halo’s origins, but as a blueprint for the series’ next evolution.

]]>The post SEGA and IOC Unite for “Five Rings” Sonic Collaboration appeared first on DeadFormat.
]]>A first glimpse at the project reveals a striking piece of artwork that reimagines the Olympic rings through a Sonic-inspired lens, merging the character’s signature speed, energy, and optimism with the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship.
This partnership arrives at an exciting time for both organizations. The Winter Olympic Games are set to take place in February 2026 from Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, while the Summer Olympics will follow in 2028 from Los Angeles. In the United States, fans will be able to watch both events across NBC and Peacock, with potential tie-ins to the Five Rings campaign planned around those broadcasts.
“We’re committed to fostering respectful and inclusive communities across the globe at SEGA,” said Shuji Utsumi, President and COO of Sega Corporation. “Partnering with the International Olympic Committee allows us to bring those values to the forefront, especially through the Five Rings program. It’s a celebration of innovation, diversity, and the joy that both Sonic and the Olympics inspire.”

Under the new agreement, Sega and the IOC will explore a range of licensing and design opportunities. This includes the development of limited-edition apparel, collectibles, and digital merchandise inspired by the Five Rings artwork. The companies are actively seeking collaborating brands and creative partners to expand the project into lifestyle and entertainment markets, ensuring the partnership resonates with fans of all ages.
A dedicated merchandise collection is already in early production stages, with a planned launch in 2026 to coincide with the Milan-Cortina Winter Games. Items are expected to celebrate the legacy of Sonic’s 1991 debut while paying tribute to over a century of Olympic heritage — uniting two timeless symbols of play and performance.
“The IOC is delighted to unite with SEGA for this exciting new chapter,” said Elisabeth Allaman, Deputy Managing Director of IOC TMS. “By combining the universally recognized Olympic rings with the beloved character of Sonic, we’re creating new opportunities for fans to engage with the spirit of sport and play in ways that are imaginative, interactive, and deeply meaningful.”
The “Five Rings” partnership marks the beginning of what could become one of the most recognizable collaborations in modern entertainment — blending the speed of Sonic with the spirit of the Olympics, and proving once again that when it comes to bringing people together, games and sport speak the same universal language.

Combining flashy choreography, high-energy music, and stylized demon-slaying combat, the movie has become a cult hit since its release. Its unique mix of music fandom and fantasy storytelling makes it an ideal fit for Fortnite’s crossover events, which often celebrate cultural touchstones across film, gaming, and music.
The popular Horde Rush experience returns with a supernatural spin as Demon Rush. Players can recruit Rumi, Mira, or Zoey to help them survive endless waves of faceless demons, unlocking KPop Demon Hunters-inspired perks between each survival phase. This mode will be live from October 2 through November 1.
K-pop has become one of the most powerful forces in global pop culture, and its crossover into gaming is only natural. The genre’s blend of high-energy music, bold visuals, and loyal fandoms aligns perfectly with the interactive, community-driven world of modern games. From rhythm titles to virtual concerts, K-pop idols have already made waves across multiple platforms, but Fortnite’s collaborations give fans a unique way to live out their fandom in real time. By blending idol aesthetics with action gameplay, crossovers like KPop Demon Hunters highlight how music, fashion, and gaming continue to collide in fresh and innovative ways.

Fans can step into the spotlight with outfits for Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, complete with accessories and themed emotes. The HUNTR/X Bundle also debuts on launch day, alongside quest rewards including Rumi’s Empowered Sword and Mira’s X-tra Spicy Ramyeon. These cosmetics celebrate the characters’ unique personalities while giving players stylish new options in Battle Royale and Blitz.
Starting October 2, creators gain access to KPop Demon Hunters assets in Fortnite Creative and the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). This includes demon enemies, themed props, and NPCs of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. Whether designing melee-focused survival maps or remixing existing islands with K-pop showdowns, creators can publish their projects immediately, without the usual hold period.

]]>The Hitman series has a long history of celebrity Elusive Target missions. Previous contracts featuring Sean Bean, Mads Mikkelsen, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Gary Busey asked players to track down and eliminate the star in question, blending Hollywood notoriety with Hitman’s stealth mechanics. But The Dragon takes a completely different approach.
Instead of being the target, Bruce Lee is your ally. Reimagined as Agent Lee, the martial arts legend fights alongside players to take down The Infiltrator, a powerful Elusive Target connected to a dangerous criminal syndicate. This shift not only adds novelty to the formula but also allows fans to see Lee’s iconic fighting style seamlessly integrated into the Hitman universe.
The mission’s narrative centres on the Concord Union, a secretive criminal organisation based in Hong Kong. The Union is hosting a martial arts tournament at the lavish Himmapan Hotel in Bangkok, a location familiar to Hitman veterans.
Bruce Lee’s character, Agent Lee, infiltrates the tournament with a clear goal:
For players, this means blending classic stealth and assassination gameplay with the cinematic flair of martial arts combat, creating a mission unlike any other in the franchise.
The Dragon can be played for free until November 20, 2025, making it a time-sensitive event for all Hitman players. After that, those who wish to keep it permanently can purchase the Bruce Lee Pack, which not only grants ongoing access to the mission but also adds themed items to the game.
The DLC pack serves as both a tribute and a gameplay expansion, offering players:
These additions ensure the pack isn’t just cosmetic but provides players with meaningful tools and customisation options, all wrapped in Bruce Lee’s unmistakable style.
IO Interactive emphasised the significance of this release, describing it as a rare opportunity to celebrate two milestones at once.
“Bringing Bruce Lee into Hitman: World of Assassination is both an honour and a thrill for the team,” the studio said. “The mission serves as a respectful tribute to the legendary martial artist, while offering players a unique challenge inspired by his extraordinary presence and influence.”
For Bruce Lee fans, the crossover ties neatly into his enduring cultural impact, showcasing him not as a target but as a force for justice. For Hitman, it marks a creative step in how Elusive Target content can evolve after 25 years of assassinations and espionage.
By merging martial arts spectacle with Hitman’s trademark stealth, The Dragon creates one of the series’ most unique experiences. The mission blends action, narrative, and nostalgia, while introducing new layers of gameplay that appeal to both long-time Hitman veterans and new players discovering the franchise for the first time.
With its limited availability, themed DLC, and heartfelt tribute, The Dragon highlights how Hitman: World of Assassination continues to reinvent itself — proving the franchise still has fresh surprises even a quarter-century on.
