Keanu Reeves has confirmed his interest in returning to the Cyberpunk universe, stating that he would “absolutely” reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand in the upcoming sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
Keanu’s Enthusiasm for Cyberpunk’s Future
While promoting his upcoming film Good Fortune, Reeves was asked about his interest in returning to the role during an interview with IGN. His answer was clear:
“Absolutely, I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”

Legacy of Johnny Silverhand
Reeves became a fan-favourite in the gaming community after his show-stealing appearance at E3 2019, where he helped announce Cyberpunk 2077’s release date and delivered the now-iconic line, “You’re breathtaking. You’re all breathtaking!”
In the game, Reeves played Johnny Silverhand — the rebellious rockstar-turned-terrorist whose consciousness was preserved as a digital engram and uploaded into protagonist V’s mind. The branching endings of Cyberpunk 2077 continue to spark debates about how CD Projekt Red will handle Johnny’s future in the sequel.
Cyberpunk 2077 Endings and Sequel Challenges
Each ending of Cyberpunk 2077 presents unique implications for Johnny Silverhand’s role:
- Temperance Ending – Johnny permanently takes over V’s body, while V joins Alt Cunningham beyond the Blackwall.
- The Sun Ending – V reclaims their body, while Johnny remains in cyberspace.
- Arasaka Ending – The relic is removed, erasing Johnny entirely.
- Phantom Liberty’s King of Pentacles Ending – V is cured of the relic but left incompatible with cyberware, effectively becoming an ordinary person after a two-year coma.
With such divergent outcomes, the writers of Cyberpunk 2 will need to carefully weave Johnny Silverhand back into the story if Reeves is to return.
What We Know About Cyberpunk 2
Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith recently revealed that although his involvement is less direct this time, he is still reviewing scripts and providing creative feedback. He teased that players will once again visit Night City, alongside a new location he described as “like Chicago gone wrong.”
Meanwhile, CD Projekt co-CEO Michal Nowakowski has stated that their games typically take four to five years from pre-production to release. With Project Orion (now retitled Cyberpunk 2) having entered pre-production in May 2025, fans can likely expect the sequel in 2029 or 2030.
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that a substantial portion of their development team is engaged in creating multiple projects, with over 100 employees currently working on various new titles, including the upcoming Witcher game codenamed Polaris, which is described as the next mainline installment in the Witcher series.
