Nintendo Unveils Super Mario Galaxy Releases Ahead of Movie

Nintendo has announced that the acclaimed Wii classics Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 will return as a single collection on Nintendo Switch. The bundle, titled Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, launches on October 2, 2025 both physically and digitally, giving players the chance to experience two of Mario’s most celebrated adventures on modern hardware.

The original Galaxy wowed audiences in 2007 with its innovative gravity-based platforming and orchestral soundtrack, while Galaxy 2 built on that success in 2010 with even more creative level design and the return of Yoshi as a rideable companion. This marks the first time Galaxy 2 has been re-released since its original launch, making the collection a major moment for fans.

Two New Super Mario Galaxy Amiibo Revealed

To accompany the game collection, Nintendo has also revealed two brand-new Galaxy amiibo figures, set to arrive on April 2, 2026 — just one day before the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

While Nintendo has yet to share full images, early previews hint that the figures will feature Mario in his signature Star Suit and a Luma companion, celebrating the characters’ upcoming big-screen debut.
These amiibo are expected to include in-game functionality, though specific bonuses have not been confirmed.

Super Mario Galaxy Storybook Gets Physical Release

In a surprise move, Nintendo is also releasing the storybook from the original Super Mario Galaxy as a physical collectible through My Nintendo, available to redeem later today.

The illustrated storybook, which appears throughout the first game, tells the touching backstory of Rosalina, the mysterious cosmic guardian who watches over the Lumas. It has long been a fan-favourite piece of Galaxy lore, and this marks the first time it has been made available as a standalone item outside the game itself.

Building to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie

These announcements come as Nintendo ramps up celebrations for the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. (1985) and builds momentum for the upcoming Movie, releasing on April 3, 2026 from Universal and Illumination.

By bringing the games to Switch, launching new amiibo, and spotlighting Rosalina’s origins through the storybook, Nintendo is laying the groundwork for what looks to be Mario’s biggest year yet — both in games and on the big screen.
