Peaky Blinders Sequel Series Officially Set at Netflix and BBC

A New Generation of the Shelby Family

By order of the Peaky Blinders, the Shelby saga isn’t over yet. Netflix and BBC have confirmed a Peaky Blinders sequel series, created once again by Steven Knight. Deadline reports that Cillian Murphy — who brought Tommy Shelby to life in the original series — will executive-produce the new project.

The sequel will run for six one-hour episodes per season, continuing the franchise that became a global phenomenon and made Peaky Blinders one of the most-watched British dramas of the last decade.

The Story Continues in 1953 Birmingham

Set in Britain in 1953, the series explores Birmingham at a crossroads, rebuilding from the devastation of World War II bombings. The spotlight shifts to a new generation of the Shelby family, hungry for power and survival in a city being reshaped by concrete, steel, and ambition.

“In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,” reads the official logline. “This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

The year 1953 is also significant historically, marking the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and a cultural shift in postwar Britain — a fitting backdrop for a new Shelby dynasty.

Links to the Upcoming Peaky Blinders Film

The new series won’t exist in isolation. It will reportedly pick up after the events of the upcoming, untitled Peaky Blinders film, currently in production at Netflix.

That film will reunite several fan-favorite cast members:

    • Stephen Graham (Matilda)
    • Sophie Rundle (Gentleman Jack)
    • Ned Dennehy (Culprits)
    • Packy Lee (Blue Lights)
    • Ian Peck (His Dark Materials)

Cillian Murphy will also reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in the film, while the cast expands with big names including Rebecca Ferguson (Silo), Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin), and Tim Roth (Tin Star). The film sets the stage for the sequel, bridging the gap between Tommy Shelby’s legacy and the rise of a new generation.

    Peaky Blinders: A Look Back

Originally debuting in 2013, Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons and concluded in 2022. The show followed the Shelby family gang in 1919 Birmingham, led by Cillian Murphy’s cold, ambitious crime boss, Tommy Shelby. Across its run, the series earned BAFTA recognition, international acclaim, and a cult following on Netflix — turning its gritty style, sharp writing, and iconic quotes into part of modern pop culture.

Steven Knight always maintained that the series would eventually end with a film. As he explained: “I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”

With the movie now in production and a sequel confirmed, it’s clear the Shelby legacy is far from finished.

    When Will It Release?

Neither Netflix nor BBC has confirmed a release date for the sequel. With the movie currently filming and the series still in development, 2026 is a realistic target for the show’s premiere. Casting details for the sequel itself remain under wraps, though announcements are expected once the movie nears completion.

Why a Sequel, Not Just a Movie?

Originally, fans believed the film would serve as the definitive finale. However, the announcement of a sequel suggests that both Netflix and BBC see long-term value in extending the world of Peaky Blinders.

The decision also reflects the franchise’s global reach. Through Netflix, Peaky Blinders attracted audiences far beyond the UK, making it a streaming juggernaut with fans in the US, Europe, and Asia. Expanding with both a movie and a series ensures its legacy continues.

    What Fans Can Expect

While the new series shifts focus to a younger generation, the core themes of family, ambition, and brutality are expected to remain intact. Viewers can anticipate:

    • Power struggles over Birmingham’s reconstruction boom.
    • Generational conflict between old-guard Shelbys and their heirs.
    • The same mix of period drama, gangster grit, and mythic storytelling that defined the original.

Knight has described the new story as a contest of “mythical dimensions,” suggesting the stakes will be just as high as anything Tommy Shelby faced.

    The Shelby Legacy Lives On

With a feature film on the horizon and a new sequel series confirmed, the Peaky Blinders universe is evolving into something even bigger. Fans may be leaving behind Tommy Shelby’s direct rise to power, but his influence — and the blood-soaked Shelby name — will continue to shape Birmingham’s destiny in 1953 and beyond. For now, one thing is certain: the world of Peaky Blinders isn’t done making its mark.
