The legendary outlaw of Sherwood Forest is returning to television this autumn. MGM+ has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming Robin Hood series, set to premiere this November, featuring Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) as the ruthless Sheriff of Nottingham and Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) as Eleanor of Aquitaine.
The ten-episode series introduces Jack Patten in his breakout role as Robin “Rob” Hood, joined by Lauren McQueen as Marian, Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham, Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon, Marcus Fraser as Little John, Anghus Castle-Doughty as Friar Tuck, and Henry Rowley as Will Scarlet.
A Fresh Take on a Classic Tale
While Robin Hood has been reimagined countless times across stage and screen, this version promises to bring a modern energy to the timeless story. The series blends sweeping romance, psychological depth, and historical authenticity with the roguish adventure audiences expect.
At its heart is the love story between Rob, a Saxon forester’s son, and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord. Their forbidden romance is set against the backdrop of Norman-occupied England, as the pair fight together for freedom and justice.
As Rob rises to become leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian uses her wit and influence to infiltrate power at court. Their combined efforts aim to thwart royal corruption and restore peace to the land, with both the iconic bowman and his band of Merry Men taking centre stage.

Sean Bean: From 006 to the Sheriff of Nottingham
Casting Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham brings a certain weight to the project. Bean is no stranger to iconic roles, whether playing noble heroes or complex villains. Many viewers will know him as Ned Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, but his résumé stretches back decades.
In 1995, Bean starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye, where his portrayal of 006, Alec Trevelyan, made him one of James Bond’s most memorable adversaries. That mix of charisma, menace, and gravitas established Bean as an actor who could balance intelligence with intimidation — qualities that will likely define his Sheriff of Nottingham.
Beyond Bond, Bean’s career spans from fantasy epics (The Lord of the Rings trilogy’s Boromir) to gritty dramas (Sharpe, Ronin, Patriot Games). His reputation for scene-stealing performances — often in roles where his characters meet a dramatic end — has made him a fan-favourite across generations. Now, stepping into the boots of one of English folklore’s most infamous villains, Bean looks set to bring the same magnetic energy that made Trevelyan and Boromir unforgettable.
Tradition Meets Modern Storytelling
From Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn to Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe, Robin Hood has remained a fixture of popular culture for over a century of cinema. MGM+’s new adaptation looks to honour that legacy while reimagining the tale for a new audience, mixing high-stakes political drama with swashbuckling action.
With Sean Bean adding star power as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Connie Nielsen lending gravitas as Eleanor of Aquitaine, and a fresh cast of emerging talent, the series sets the stage for a bold new chapter in the story of England’s most famous outlaw.
